Todo comenzó con una conversación random en Instagram, el primer mensaje de audio de Renee en español y un viaje a Santa Fe. Muchos audios después, y al ver que nuestras conversaciones sobre arte, tecnología y pensamiento crítico fluyen entre puntos en común y sutiles diferencias, supimos que en algún momento teníamos que colaborar. Liminal Bits es una apertura social al fluir de estas conversaciones, pero también una mirada al presente y al futuro, para conversar con otros, para vincular narrativas y hechos contemporáneos. Para explorar palabras tanto en inglés como en español, para caminar esa zona fuera foco, ideas liminales que a menudo son difíciles de expresar con palabras, pero un ejercicio necesario para analizar críticamente los flujos del poder tecnológico y las experiencias estéticas y poéticas de nuestro mundo actual. Con una mezcla entre ideas formales, pensamientos informales y exploraciones / traducciones críticas, Liminal Bits es una discusión continua. ¡Unite!

Our collaboration began with a random conversation on Instagram, Renee’s first audio message sent in Spanish, and a trip to Santa Fe. Many audios later, after realizing that our conversations on code, art, technology, language, and criticality flow from something in common to subtlety different perspectives, we knew that at some point we had to collaborate. Liminal Bits is the outcome of these conversations but also a look at the present and to the future, to converse with others, to link history and contemporary facts, to explore words both in English and in Spanish, to tread the liminal that is often hard to put into words but necessary to begin to critically dissect the technological power flows and the aesthetic and poetic experiences of our world today. With a mix between formal ideas, informal thoughts, and critical explorations/translations, Liminal Bits is an ongoing discussion. Join us!

_ES. Laura Benech
Artista visual. Nace en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vivió por más de una década en Córdoba, formándose y desarrollando diversas actividades en relación al arte y los nuevos medios. Desde 2009 se encuentra en Santa Fe. Sus proyectos exploran los medios digitales y el pensamiento crítico, con un interés orientado a los sistemas horizontales y el error como potencialidad. La investigación sobre códigos, desmaterialización de la naturaleza y los bordes de la tecno-ciencia se han convertido en el foco de sus últimas producciones. Trabaja tanto individualmente como en forma colaborativa.

Visual artist. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She lived for more than a decade in Córdoba, developing various activities in relation to art and new media. In 2009 she moved to Santa Fe, where is actually producing. Her projects explore digital media and critical thinking, with an interest in horizontal systems and glitch (and misuse) as potentiality. Research on codes, dematerialization of nature and the edges of techno-science have become the focus of her latest productions. Loves to work both individually and collaboratively.

_ES. Renee Carmichael es una escritora, investigadora y artista. Es doctoranda en Teoría Comprada de las Artes de la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF). Su tesis explora la estética de la danza contemporánea y el código, buscando una relación estética entre lo formal y lo sensible. Su investigación, escritura y obras juntan ideas poéticas e interdisciplinarias para explorar el limite entre la teoría y la práctica. Sus trabajos varían de formato desde poesía y código hasta performance, instalación. Sus textos han sido publicado en publicaciones internacionales, tanto académicas como artísticas. Es Master en Medios Interactivos: Teoría y Práctica Critica de Goldsmiths College en Londres, ha trabajado como investigadora en el Hybrid Publishing Lab de Leuphana University en Alemana y es fundadora de la plataforma experimental Flee Immediately!.

_EN. Renee Carmichael is a researcher, writer, and artist. She is a doctoral candidate in Comparative Art Theory at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero in Argentina. Her thesis research focuses on the aesthetics of contemporary dance and code (algorithm), exploring a relationship between the formal and the sensorial. Her research, writing and artworks often bring together poetic and interdisciplinary ideas that explore the boundaries between theory and practice. The format of work varies, from code poems to performance and installation. Her texts have been published internationally in both academic and artistic publications. She has a master’s degree in Interactive Media: Critical Theory and Practice from Goldsmiths College in London, has previously worked as a researcher in the Hybrid Publishing Lab at Leuphana University in Germany and is founder of the experimental publishing project Flee Immediately!.
